The Journey of a Creative

My creative journey began at a young age. My mother is a designer and pattern maker, and my father enjoys designing and creating handmade clothing for action figures as a hobby. As I watched them I developed my own creative passion for art. I remember painting in watercolor for my mother to hang on the fringe or display at her work desk, while also exploring crocheting together. I remember making beaded bookmarks for my grandmother and her sister circle. In the early 2000's I acquired a special painting technique called “One Stroke Painting” where I fell in love with acrylic paint. When I attended my first session, I was the only artist who showed up. The instructor wanted to cancel but my mother insisted on how good of an artist I was despite my young age. And from that day I became her favorite student, happily continuing to have one on one paint sessions.

In 2005 I gifted my great grandmother my first custom painted tea set that she absolutely loved and left on display. I hand painted gifts for family and began to sell my artwork to my classmates and teachers as gifts throughout my academic career. Art class, of course, was my favorite in high school. Coincidently, although I have a drive for art, I did not pursue a career in art in college like my mother suggested. Instead I earned a BA in Public, Professional and Organizational Communication and a certificate in Paralegal Studies. I've sold custom painted glassware, and created many special occasion and household gifts. I love creating pieces that leave a special and peculiar touch to any home. In 2018, my creative journey led me to fashion and I've sewn staple pieces of my wardrobe, and for others, specializing in modest apparel and holy garments according to Numbers 15:38 KJV.

I began teaching paint sessions prior to Covid and have not stopped since. I had been invited to a sip and paint by a close friend, and while painting, the instructing artist mentioned an inspiring opportunity of becoming an instructor. From then on I’ve been hosting paint sessions where every attendee becomes an artist tapped into their creative flow and leave feeling both relaxed and proud of themselves for creating a brand new beautiful masterpiece, all from scratch to hang in their homes. I believe everyone is able to create something beautiful and am inspired by being able to teach others how to create their own artwork, ready to show off what they’ve accomplished. Whether young, older or first timer, my instruction inspires artists to tap into their creative flow while trusting the creative process in art and in their own walk of life. As a class, although we're all painting the same painting, no two masterpieces are the same and that is what makes them unique to each individual artist.

My favorite scripture says "Give her the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates." Proverbs 31:31. I am Yah's Treasures Soul. I am a daughter, sister, wife, mother and artist. I love what I do and of all the roles I fulfill, I give all glory, gratitude and honor to The Most High.
